Twitter has officially unleashed its 280 character count to the masses. The micro-blogging site had originally selected only a small number of accounts to test the longer feature. However, it announced on Tuesday that it would increase the character limit from 140 characters to 280 for all of its users. Netizens around the world woke up on Wednesday to the latest upgrade on Twitter and reacted to its new feature…. on Twitter. However, it seems that while the feature has been welcomed by many users, it has also annoyed many. Some are complaining that the introduction of the feature was totally unnecessary and what was needed, in fact, was an edit button. For some, brevity is the soul of Twitter. The US president has already tweeted two messages Tuesday that went beyond the old 140 character limit. Trump is already facing criticism over his alleged hate-mongering and propagandist tweets. Only Twitter can tell us if there has been an increase in the tweets that go beyond the 140 characters or users are sticking to the previous count. The author is a staff member at Daily Times.
