GUJRANWALA: Two laborers got electrocuted while boring for the installation of a water pump in Chanda Qilla on Wednesday. Irfan and Sarfraz were busy boring in a factory near Chanda Qilla for the installation of a water pump when an iron pipe came in contact with electric cables over their heads. As a result, both of them received a severe electric shock and died at the spot. Their bodies were shifted to DHQ Hospital by a Rescue 1122 team. Rats bite four little girls: Four girls lying in the age spectrum of four to eight years were bitten by rats at their home. The four sisters namely Iqra, Hadia, Madiha and Maryam were sleeping on the floor when rats bit their feet. Their family took them to DHQ Hospital for treatment. Anti-dengue staff’s protest: Anti-dengue staff staged a protest demonstration against the authorities for not regularizing their services. Dozens of employees gathered in front of DC Office and chanted slogans against the health authorities. They also conducted a sit-in in front of the office and blocked the road while holding banners to highlight their concerns. DC displeased over poor waste management: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tariq Qureshi expressed his displeasure over the poor performance of waste management officers and staff. In a letter, he said that the state of cleanliness in the country was condemnable because even the footpaths were covered in garbage. He further said that despite the government spending huge sum of money on waste management and the district administration’s efforts to mobilize officials in the last 20 days, no improvement was seen. The roads and footpaths are still littered with garbage. DC directed GWMS Managing Director to improve the organisation’s performance otherwise the matter would be brought in front of the higher authorities. Published in Daily Times, November 2nd 2017.
