Ever since the boxing superstar, Amir Khan and his 26-year-old wife Faryal Makhdoom began their bitter back and forth on social media following the announcement of their separation, a trail of breathtaking allegations have highlighted the flaws and discrepancies in Faryal’s character in a seemingly never ending public feud. First, claims were made by a hysterical Amir that his wife had cheated on him with fellow boxing star Anthony Joshua. With no hard-proof evidence to substantiate his assertions, the ball kept rolling with news of a divorce between the couple while Faryal was 9 months pregnant with her second child, some more jargon when Amir was spotted with model Alyzeh Gabol at a concert in Dubai just a week after his split, and some more titter bitter when Amir was accused of sending sleazy texts to a single mom he randomly met – branding his estranged wife a “Kylie Jenner plastic surgery obsessive” in a string of sordid messages to her. Just when you thought it might be over, we saw the worst coming. The teacher, Sophie reportedly confessed, “He said she was good-looking until she started following Kylie Jenner and changing her looks.” The single mother further added, “Amir said Faryal had no need for the work, then added ‘nobody would have her for a one-night stand now’, which was a rude thing to say.” The boxing champ exchanged numbers with Sophie after they crossed paths in a hotel car park and he immediately began sending her questionable text messages with requests of raunchy videos. “After all these years. I’ve always defended a cheat, always stuck around for him, always had his back,” said a beat-up Faryal claiming Amir repeatedly slept with other women during their four-year marriage. However, in September, Amir shattered all her hopes of resurrecting their relationship as he confirmed that the couple was still getting a divorce. In late September, Faryal went back on admitting to her past mistakes and apologizing for all the ‘infighting’ between her and Amir’s parents, which she revealed had amounted to a “terrible effect” on her marriage. “I now recognize that all this infighting between me and my in-laws has had a terrible effect on my husband and I. And for that, I would like to sincerely apologize,” she wrote in writing. She went on to say, “My mother- and father-in-law are the elders of our family and as such, deserve love and respect just as much as my own parents do. I’ve said things in the past out of anger that I didn’t really mean and regret now.” “My daughter and unborn child do not deserve a broken home. That is why I have decided that it is time to put our differences behind us, and start afresh. All families go through hard times. It is unfortunate for us that our difficulties were played out so publicly. I also apologize for my part in that,” she further added. Despite Faryal’s incessant attempts at making things right, ex-husband Amir Khan has in the space of a single month attacked his wife with repugnant claims of infidelity, punished her with a call for divorce, avenged her ‘ill-refuted’ and evidence-less actions by engaging in a trail of relentless philandering and last but not least triggered a succession of disturbing attacks on her looks. Amir Khan seems to be just another reminder of our long-standing deeply questionable attitudes, who like most men in our society stands accused of misogyny to a degree that has widely been seen in the growing Pakistani mainstream media for decades.
