ISLAMABAD/LARKANA: The sixth death anniversary of Nusrat Bhutto, former chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), wife of former Pakistan prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and mother of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto, would be observed today. There would be a remembrance ceremony held at Nusrat’s tomb in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, attended by several PPP leaders and scores of citizens, to pay their respects. Nusrat Bhutto died on October 23, 2011 at the age of 82 in Dubai. In a message on the eve of her sixth death anniversary, former president Asif Ali Zardari said, “The courage, tolerance and endurance of ‘Maadr-e-Jamhooriyat ‘late Begum Nusrat Bhutto will continue to inspire democracy loving people throughout the country”. The former first lady was a towering personality and possessed great personal courage, he said. In facing crises and enduring personal tragedies in the cause of democratic struggle, she inspired the young and old alike and lit the path for future generations, the former president said. He lamented the irony that when the democratic struggle in Pakistan triumphed after a long and heroic battle, Nusrat was too ill to really savour the moment of glory. “Such are the inexplicable ways of nature”, Zardari remarked. The best way to pay tribute to her memory is to strengthen the parliament and democratic institutions in the country and to remain vigilant against any attempt to undermine democratic process, he said.
