Sir: Captain Safdar’s tirade against the Ahmadia community in the National Assembly was in violation of Pakistan’s hate speech laws. Captain Safdar is also guilty of glorifying Mumtaz Qadri, Punjab Governer Salman Taseer’s murderer. What does Safdar hope to achieve by fanning guilt against a minority community which already has a hard time in Pakistan? A few days before Safdar’s outburst, the Interior Minister gave a statement against Fatwa’s which inspire hatred. What is the point of making such statement’s if his own party members use hatespeech to achieve their political goals? Furthermore, why wasn’t action against Safdar taken for violating the rules set by the National Action Plan (NAP)? It is highly unfortunate that Pakistan has moved so far from Jinnah’s ideology; that all citizens irrespective of their faith would have equal status under the law. Those who are working against this ideology are no friends of Pakistan. S T Hussein Lahore Published in Daily Times, October 15th 2017.
