Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to unite among themselves before initiating talks, stating that the behaviour of PTI leaders has changed since general Faiz’s charge sheet was issued. In an exclusive media interaction in Sialkot, Khawaja Asif remarked that the government had not been involved in any situation where negotiations were on the table. “Currently, they are fighting among themselves,” he said. “Some are demanding their two conditions be accepted, others are calling for unconditional talks, while some are just playing games with committees. They have set up a seven-member committee now, it used to be five.” Asif advised PTI members to resolve their internal conflicts first before expecting dialogue. “They need to end their internal fights, resolve their differences within the party. The founder speaks one way, while his followers say something else. Bushra Bibi says one thing, and the PTI founder’s sisters say something else.” The Defence Minister criticised the lack of a unified voice within PTI, stating, “They have forgotten who holds which position. There are so many conflicting voices, how can we respond to all of them? If a unified voice comes from them, we will respond.” Regarding the potential for negotiations, Asif said that PTI’s previous three attempts at attacking the government had failed. “After the charge sheet against General Faiz, there has been a shift in their behaviour, but there is no sincerity. For negotiations to succeed, there must be sincerity from both parties; otherwise, they fail from day one.” Asif also questioned PTI’s commitment to talks, stating, “There is no sincerity in the PTI leadership’s approach. There is no sincerity in their political or personal life. Their talks are all about fulfilling personal desires, not about meaningful dialogue.” Regarding any formal offers for negotiations, Asif added, “There has been no formal proposal from their side. The Speaker stays in the office, drinks tea, eats biscuits, and leaves. There is no official communication about negotiations.” On the issue of military courts, PML-N leader acknowledged that he was not fully aware of the Supreme Court’s detailed verdict. However, he noted, “There must be some legal or constitutional opening, even if it’s small.” Khawaja Asif concluded by remarking that PTI leaders should first realise the gravity of their actions. “They should understand that they have rebelled against the state and incited hatred against the Pakistan Army,” he added.
