In a monumental move, the Provincial Cabinet has approved Rs. 3.44 billion for the construction of Model Bazaars in 13 districts of Punjab, marking a significant milestone in providing much-needed relief to the public. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif commended the exemplary performance of Model Bazaars, recognizing their crucial role in offering essential items at prices even lower than DC-notified rates. “These bazaars are a lifeline for the people,” the Chief Minister remarked, emphasizing the dual impact of the expansion-lowering the cost of living and creating thousands of jobs. She highlighted that small business owners would benefit from affordable monthly rents starting at just Rs. 10,000. The Chief Minister also praised Afzal Khokhar, MNA, Chairman of the Punjab Model Bazaars Management Company (PMBMC), for his unwavering dedication to advancing this public welfare initiative. Naveed Rafaqat Ahmad, the CEO of PMBMC, received widespread recognition for his visionary leadership and pivotal role in successfully advocating for the funding proposal before the P&D Board. His comprehensive presentation and detailed briefing were instrumental in securing the Provincial Cabinet’s approval. Additionally, his strategic efforts ensured the acquisition of state land at no cost for the construction of 13 new bazaars, significantly enhancing the efficiency and feasibility of the project. With an annual footfall of over 60 million customers, PMBMC has established itself as a distinguished organization in the public service sector. The expansion of Model Bazaars will not only enhance the availability of affordable goods but also create significant economic opportunities for the local population. This approval underscores the government’s commitment to public welfare and economic upliftment, cementing Model Bazaars as a cornerstone of community relief and empowerment.
