LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has once again appealed to the Supreme Court to announce the decision in the Panama leaks case at the earliest and also lay down a system for eradication of corruption from the country. Addressing a party workshop at Mansoora via a video link on Wednesday, Siraj said that named in Panama leaks, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, should also be brought to justice and every penny of the public be recovered. The senator said that the rulers had tried their best to escape accountability and mislead the masses by levelling false allegations against state institutions, but their attempts had ended in failure. “Sufficient material has surfaced against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, which proves that all the eggs in the government basket are rotten,” he added. The JI chief said that corruption and democracy could not go together and it was essential to weed out corrupt elements from politics through the exercise of vote. He urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to focus on electoral reforms before the upcoming elections so as to prevent the wealthy from buying the elections. “The present system serves the interests of feudal lords and industrialists and works against honest and patriotic people,” he said.
