SUKKUR: Indus catchment areas have submerged under flood water as water level has been constantly increasing at up and low stream of Sukkur Barrage. Sukkur Barrage has been flowing under low flood and in case water level crosses 200,000 cubic feet of water per second (cusec), low flood would be declared, Sukkur Barrage regulation official, Abdul Aziz Soomro has opined. Crossing 350,000 cusec level the situation would be declared as medium flood. Increasing water level has damaged standing crops in Kajlo Kharos, Abdul Rehman Narejo, Aziz Narejo and adjoining areas. According to Soomro, water pressure has been increasing consistently at KK and Tori Bund in Kashmore, Qadirpur Loop Bund in Ghotki, Aqil Agahi and Nusrat Loop Bund in Larkana and Faridabad and Ulra Jageer Bund in Khairpur. Upstream level of water at Sukkur Barrage was recorded 192,000 cusec on Sunday and in case rains continued, level would cross limit of 200,000 cusec. To cope with the ongoing flood situation, Sindh irrigation department has taken measures to strengthen loop embankments and Junaid Memon, special Secretary Irrigation with his team has been supervising the situation.
