LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri on Friday announced that the widows and daughters of the victims of 2014 Model Town tragedy will stage a sit-in on Lahore’s Mall Road on August 16. “We have been demanding justice for three years … families of the victims can’t wait much longer,” Qadri told reporters at a press conference. “We request that an unbiased bench of the Lahore High Court is formed in the first week after Eid-ul-Azha to hear the case,” he said. The PAT chief said that the decision to stage the sit-in was made by the families themselves. He added that the participants of the rally would be women only but he would be there to express solidarity with them. “I will decide later as to when I will leave [the rally].” He vowed to avenge the martyrs of Model Town incident. He said unveiling of report of Justice Baqir Najfi was their constitutional right, which was being ruined. Qadri said the rally of ex-prime minister has converted into a caravan of speedy cars crushing innocent souls. He lamented that the PML-N leaders had not even bothered to condole with the family of 12-year-old child crushed by a police protocol van near Lalamusa. Quoting the statement of Nawaz Sharif, in which he said that his government was dislodged in order to not let them complete the constitutional term, Qadri asked, “Why does Nawaz forget the right to information, social justice and other issues, which are clearly described in the constitution?” Published in Daily Times, August 12th 2017.
