KHYBER AGENCY: The Independence Day was celebrated with zeal and fervour in Federally Administered Tribal Areas. The tribesmen renewed the pledge that they will never hesitate to lay down their lives for the sake of Pakistan. Scores of programmes had been arranged in connection of 14th August in Landi Kotal and Torkham. The day dawned with special prayers for the progress and solidarity of the country. The national flag hoisting ceremony was held at Pak-Afghan sharing border, Torkham attended by the administration and forces officials. Smart contingents of forces presented salute on the occasion. The officials jointly cut the cake to celebrate the 70th Independence Day. The Afghan forces at Torkham border exchanged greetings with officials and Pakistan Army Lieutenant Colonel Mubashir presented them sweets. Earlier, the tribesmen had finalized all preparations by decorating their houses and business centres on the eve of 14th August. Last night impressive fire works and music shows were initiated at Takia, Khyber Zakha Khel that amused the locals. A car rally was also arranged by the Khyber Transport Association in Landi Kotal. Meanwhile to commemorate the Independence Day, sports events were also set up under the auspices of Khyber Sports Club at Helipad ground of Landi Kotal on Monday. The local sportsmen presented their best talent in tug of war and cricket matches appreciated by thousands of local spectators. Electrocuted: Three teen boys were electrocuted in Kalanga area, Aka Khel of Tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency on Monday. The political administration and sources said that the incident took place last evening at 06:30pm when the three ill-fated boys touched a power pole. They were taken to nearest health centre, however, they were announced dead after thorough examination, hospital official told. The deceased were between 15 and 17 years, sources informed. They were identified as Yaseen, son of Khalid; Sajid, son of Umar Din; and Noorullah, son of Naushad. Published in Daily Times, August 15th 2017.
