Karachi: The Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to Sindh government and other respondents on a petition filed by Mohajir Qaumi Movement’s Chairman Afaq Ahmed against the government’s refusal to allow his party to hold public meeting in the city. An SHC bench heard the petition of MQM-H Chief. The court while issuing notice to provincial government asked it to file comments on the petition. In his petition, Afaq has submitted that his party was not allowed to hold party meeting in July and August. He added that they moved prior application seeking permission for the public gathering but authorities did not grant them permission. He said that peaceful political activities and holding public meetings was fundamental right of every party. Naming Home Secretary, SSP Korangi, Deputy Commissioner and other as respondents, Afaq Ahmed pleaded the court to direct the authorities to allow his party to hold public meeting in the third week of September after Eidul Azha. The court adjourned further hearing of the petition till August 28, 2017. It is to be mentioned here that in July MQM-H was denied permission to hold a public meeting at Nishtar Park.
