LAHORE: Opposition in Punjab through a resolution has urged the federal government to cancel the foreign minister’s trip to the US following the recent harsh statement of President Donald Trump. The resolution from the opposition party in Punjab Assembly was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed vocal legislator Nabila Hakim Ali in the Notice Branch of the Assembly Secretariat on Thursday. US President Donald Trump announced his strategy for the South Asian region on Tuesday in which he – setting aside all efforts and sacrifices in the war on terror – harshly criticised Pakistan for providing a safe haven to the “agents of chaos”. The opposition legislator, filing her resolution against the allegation of giving safe haven to the terrorists, urged the government of Pakistan to change its foreign policy with regard to America (as an ally of the US in the war on terror), keeping in view the current situation. Suggesting the cancellation of the tour of Pakistani foreign minister to United States immediately, she said in the resolution that the allegation leveled by the US president of providing hideouts to terrorists in Pakistan was condemnable. Nabila also added that the statement by the US president was given on the behest of India, through which he (Donald Trump) had disrespected more than 50,000 Pakistani martyrs belonging to the Pakistan Army, security agencies, police and civilians who lost their lives during the continuing war against terrorism in the country. She suggested the federal government to change its policy toward America and cancel the foreign minister’s scheduled trip. The resolution would be taken up in the next provincial assembly session.
