DADU: Flooding, after a 60-feet breach, occurred in Kudan Branch in KN Shah Town has inundated four villages of Union Council Sindhri Bothra and its surrounding farmlands. The inundated villages are Shadi Khan Chandio, Ali Muhammad, Abdul Rasheed Saandh and Tarai Solangi. No official of the Irrigation Department has arrived at the breach site while villagers on a self-help basis have been working to plug the opening. Talking to daily Times Raees Mumtaz Ali Chandio and other villagers said that owing to no one repairing the branches of Dadu Canal, Kudhan Branch has been badly damaged and now because of the increasing water level in Kudhan Shakh last night a 60-feet wide breach has occurred that has caused heavy financial losses other than the inundation of farmlands and homes. They said gushing water damaged rice paddies, cotton and vegetables standing crops and despite providing information on the matter the area irrigation SDO Ghulam Hyder Junenjo and AC Mukthair Abro have failed to take steps on an emergency basis. Villagers Abdul Rasheed Saandh, Ghulam Sarwar and others said that they have been trying to seek government help of boats as they would shift their families and household to safer places. Four government primary schools and fish ponds have also been inundated in flood and owners have lost huge financial losses. No representative of the ruling PPP party has come to help them. They demanded of Sindh Chief Minister to take notice against negligence of irrigation officials and send rescues teams to their villages. Irrigation SDO Ghulam Hyder Junejo was also not available for comments on the matter, they lamented. Published in Daily Times, August 30th 2017.
