ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif reached Iran on Monday to discuss the ongoing situation and the Afghan policy with senior Iranian officials. He was accompanied by Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, National Security Adviser Nasir Janjua, Foreign Secretary Tehmina and other senior officials on this visit. During the visit, they will call on Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his counterpart in the country. Matters of mutual interests, regional situation and bilateral ties would be reviewed in the meetings, while US Afghan policy and its effects on the region will also be a key part of the discussion. Khawaja Asif planned this four-nation tour of Russia, China, Turkey and Iran just two weeks after US President Donald Trump slammed Pakistan while announcing the Afghan policy, for allegedly providing protection to terrorists.
