SUKKUR: The Sukkur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Raheem Bux held a meeting on Friday, where he gave various departments instructions to ensure a well-ordered and trouble free Muharram. The DC directed the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) to ensure an uninterrupted supply of power during Ashura and particularly during Majalis hours. He also instructed Sukkur’s municipal authority to get all the city’s sewerage lines cleaned. The District Health Officer (DHO) and the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the Sukkur Civil Hospital were told to make arrangements for life saving drugs and ambulance services before Muharram started. The DC also stressed upon the need to stifle hate speech during the holy month, instructing the assistant commissioners to keep an eye on printing presses which may be publishing hate speech and to strictly implement the Sindh Sound System (regulation) Act. The DC highlighted the role of religious leaders and figures in maintaining peace, and asked them to ensure that all sects are on the same page during the holy month. The Sukkur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amjad Sheikh informed the meeting that organizers, participants and volunteers of the procession would be issued stickers, and the police will be monitoring all procession entry and exit points closely to keep out criminal and terrorist elements. The meeting was attended by the Commander 81 wing of Shahabaz Rangers, officials of Sukkur civic entities, revenue departments, health departments as well as religious scholars.
