Karachi: Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh on Friday said that the efforts were underway to provide speedy justice to all petitioners, especially poor and prisoners, and hoped that by the end of current year, 2017, all the pending cases of previous year, 2016, would be disposed of. Addressing the 2nd National Judicial Conference organized by Justice Helpline and Sindh High Court Bar Association SHCBA, Chief Justice of Sindh High Court said since March 2017 he has ensure the speedy disposal of pending cases which could be gauged from the fact that if at one hand 200 cases filed then on the other hand 600 cases were disposed of. ” Despite the substantial progress I am not satisfied with the current rate of the settlement of the cases. I will be satisfied only when speedy justices would be ensured”, Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh added. Praising the efforts of Justice Helpline, CJ SHC said that “Institutions play vital role in the development of nations”. “I agree that justice is not free and nor speedy”, he said adding “but we will have to search for the reasons”. If all the stakeholders play their role the issues can be resolved instantly, Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh said. The Chief Justice SHC noted that the institutions, schools and hospital, responsible for facilitating general public are not playing their due role and most of the funds which government provides them goes to the pocket of few individuals through corrupt practices. “What can a teacher whose appointment has been made on political bases will teach”, he question adding that “there only one teacher for 700 student as most of the teachers are drawing their salaries sitting at home”. He asked the lawyers to perform their role for the provision of speedy justice to all petitioners “because all live for themselves but only few live for others and that is the real meaning of life”. Earlier, former federal attorney general Anwar Mansoor, in his address noted that the substantial reduction in the pending cases has been witnessed. He stressed upon the lawyers to cooperate with judges and courts for provision of speedy justice to those poor and needy petitioners being a part of the same chariot. Anwar Mansoor asked the lawyers to education themselves with the cases, ” short cut in law should be proactively taken care of”. Shahab Sarki, president SHCBA, eulogized the efforts of Justice Helpline especially for the poor and needy petitioners. He asked the law students and lawyers to help common man seeking justice saying “the Zakat of profession is the help of poor petitioner”, M Nadeem A Shaikh, President Justice Helpline, in his welcome address highlighted the objectives of Judicial Conference and hoped that the moot will pave the way for the speedy disposal of around 1.7 million cases.
