Karachi: The Nazir appointed by the Sindh High Court (SHC) to ensure re-opening of Ayisha Bawani College, opened the college after breaking the lock and pasted the order of the court on the college gate. While hearing the plea regarding the closure of the college, a division bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, ruled “under all circumstances, classes and the college must resume by today (Friday).” The court was hearing the plea filed by the teachers, submitting that the future of thousands of students, who were being educated at college, was on stake due to the rift between Ayisha Bawani Trust and Sindh government. The court was informed that the college had not been reopened despite its directives. Earlier on Saturday, the SHC had suspended the order of lower court to seal the college and ordered its immediate re-opening. Despite the passage of six days, the directive of higher judiciary was not complied with. Expressing its displeasure, the SHC appointed its Nazir and directed him to proceed immediately to the building and show a copy of court’s order to the person who claim to hold possession of the college. The bench also directed the SHO of the police station and SSP concerned to assign the Nazir in re-opening the college and to maintain law and order situation. The police was also directed to take strict action against those who create hindrance to implementation of its orders. “If necessary, the Nazir has full authority to break any lock and to take all such steps as he may deem appropriate to ensure opening of the college,” the bench ruled in its order. Complying with the court’s directives, Nazir accompanied by police party reached the college and opened it after breaking the lock. The court has ordered to put the college and the relevant portion of the building back in the possession of the provincial government only for the limited purposes for resuming the classes.
