LAHORE: Following the alarming situation of increasing distribution and usage of drugs among students – even those in schools – a demand to hold a grand operation against those supplying drugs to students at educational institutes was initiated by a treasury member of the Punjab Assembly. Hina Pervaiz Butt, who is known for her bold initiatives to highlight sensitive issues of society, has filed a resolution against the drug dealers involved in supplying drugs to students of different educational institutes of the province. She submitted her resolution against the drug mafia in the Notice Branch of the Punjab Assembly Secretariat on Monday in which she demanded the government to launch a grand operation against the mafia. Hina disclosed that the usage of drugs was increasing day to day among students of schools and colleges, and such a thing was damaging the young generation and destroying their future but also that of the nation. She also revealed in the resolution that some specific groups of dealers had been pushing the use of drugs among students. The PML-N legislator further stated that the mafia was also using children for their cause, adding that the lives of such innocent pupils were also in danger. Hina demanded the government that it should take serious notice of the issue and hold a grand operation to curb the drugs from educational institutes, as the usage of drugs was enhancing day by day. The resolution is likely to be tabled in the next session of the assembly, expected next month. Published in Daily Times, September 26th 2017.
