PESHAWAR: At least 20 people sustained injuries in an explosion near a private hospital on Peshawar’s Ring Road on Friday, police said. While Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Faizi said 20 people sustained injuries and were treated on the spot, SSP Operations Sajjad Khan said only five people were seriously injured in the explosion that took place near a hospital located on Ring Road near Shinwari Town, within the jurisdiction of Paharipura police station. Police said the hospital owner was the target of the attack as he was already receiving threatening calls from extortionists. “The blast occurred just outside the hospital, injuring many people including one of the owners, Osman Maqsood, who was on his way back after Friday prayers,” an official said, adding that according to the bomb disposal squad officials the device used in the attack was probably homemade. Meanwhile, police and intelligence agencies in a joint operation rounded up two terrorists and recovered seven hand grenades, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and prima card and shrapnel from an under construction house.
