KHAIRPUR: Directorate of Post Graduate Studies Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur celebrated 15 years of the role and contribution of Higher Education Commission (HEC) for the promotion of research culture. Director Post Graduate Studies Dr Ghulam Mohiuddin Veesar said that we have facilitated the promotion of research on modern lines with the mission to create space for quality education and research. More than 3,000 scholars have enrolled under M.S, MPhil and Ph.D. programmes in various fields. The enrollment had been increasing annually by 600 to 700 on average, he said. He revealed that the directorate had produced more than 200 M.S, MPhil and Ph.D scholars from 2012 to 2017 in arts & languages, education, management sciences, natural sciences, physical sciences and social sciences. Prof Lutfullah Mangi said that the role of HEC was commendable in the promotion of research culture and remarked that the university was adhering to the policies of research set by HEC. Higher Education Commission is striving for quality education in the remote and less developed areas of the country. The opening of six campuses under its umbrella project in Sindh is a significant step in the pursuit of quality education, he said Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages Prof Yousuf Khushk briefed the participants about the working mechanisms of HEC and erstwhile University Grants Commission of Pakistan. He said that HEC was established to cater to the academic, research and developmental needs of the country. Steps taken by HEC to improve education standards include: scholarship opportunities, career building opportunities, provision of laptop scheme and fee reimbursement schemes, he said.
