ISLAMABAD: The under construction Lahore-Multan motorway will be completed and opened for traffic in April 2018, it was revealed by Minister for Communications Hafiz Abdul Kareem during his visit to the project. The minister also visited Lahore-Sialkot motorway. Ministry of Communications Federal Secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon, National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar and senior officers from the Ministry of Communications and NHA were also present at the occasion. The federal minister said that there were 13 motorways projects underway, of which three had already been completed, whereas, 9 were in different phases of construction. Expressing confidence over the project, he recalled that in 2013, the total length of motorways in the country was 580 km which would now be increased to 2400 km. He said that Lahore-Multan motorway project’s progress is satisfactory and would be inaugurated in the first week of April 2018, 4 months earlier than originally planned. He appreciated the efforts of the engineers and NHA officers involved in the project. Ministry of Communications Federal Secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon said that the completion of Lahore-Multan Motorway would make the Lahore-Multan journey of 3 hours, previously of 5 hours.
