GUJRANWALA: Ashfaq Ahmed Khan has assumed the charge ofGujranwala City Police Officer (CPO)on Tuesday. Earlier he was serving as DPO Bahawalpur. After assuming the position,Khan called the first meeting with his subordinates and discussed the crime and security situation in the district. The CPO spelled out his priorities and vowed to take every possible step for the maintenance of law and order in the district. He emphasized the need to improve the efficiency of snap checking, picketing, and patrolling. He believe no stone should be leftunturned for the maintenance of law and order in the district and he exhorted the police officers to focus their attention on curbing crime. He made it clear that corruption in police would not be tolerated in any manner. The CPO also said that efforts must be made to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect between the public and the police. Separately, six members of a family became unconscious after drinking poisonous “lassi” at Qilla Didar Singh Gujranwala. The family members of Ghulam Rasool, residents of Qilla Didar Singh,drank the poisonous “lassi” in the morning.Resultantly, Ghulam Rasool, 60, his wife Fatima, 58, daughter Sidra, 22,son Sameer, 4, and daughter Areeba, 2,lostconsciousness and were rushed to DHQ Hospital. Meanwhile, Commissioner Muhammad Asif visited the DHQ Hospital and inspected the kidney transplant department. He said a kidney transplant facility will soon be available in the hospital and necessary homework was being done by the authorities concerned.
