Sir: It is today’s retirees of PIA who laid the foundations of the national carrier with the slogan, ‘Great People to Fly With.’ However, all the hard work by the PIA retirees is going in vain. The government and PIA do not recognise the loyalty and services of the retired PIA officials. The PIA retirees like me performed 20-hour duty at one stage, while some of us also worked for 30 hours without a break during the 1965 and 1971 wars. It is clear proof of their obedience and devotion to the national airline and the country. The prime minister says the world is facing inflation and high costs of living. Keeping this in view, it would not be unfair to demand that there should be at least a 25 percent increase in the pension of PIA retirees. Inflation has increased 45 percent, while the cost of living has gone up 100 percent. I request the authorities concerned to pay attention to the problems being faced by PIA retirees instead of focusing on trivial issues. MOHAMMAD AHMED Karachi
