Sir: The recent horrific collisions between two passenger coaches and two trucks on the RCD Highway between Quetta and Karachi left at least 38 people dead and 15 others critically injured. The collision and resulting fire were so fierce that one of the buses and the trucks were completely burnt and the passengers did not get a chance to escape the fire and were burnt alive before rescuers arrived. The main reason for this, which I want to state, is that smuggled petrol and diesel are a very common business for the transporters nowadays and were the main reason for the loss of many lives. If there were no smuggling of oil and diesel the accident would not have been that serious. I request the government take serious action against those responsible for the accident and to try stopping the smuggling of oil and diesel. ASIF HAMEED Buleda
