Sir: A very tragic incident took place in Sibi where 17 people were burnt to death and over 45 others were seriously injured after a powerful explosion took place in a Rawalpindi-bound train. Eight of the victims belong to a Hindu family. A Baloch separatist organisation (United Baloch Army) claimed responsibility for the bomb blast that ripped the washroom of the ninth bogey. After the incident, all claims to have secured railway tracks by senior officials, including the inspector-general of railway police and minister for railways, turned out to be wrong. No steps have yet been taken to secure railway tracks, trains and railway stations due to which such a gory incident occurred. No one knows how many bodies we will bury and for how long this series of bomb blasts will continue. Ministers and government officials keep issuing useless statements whereas their performance seems zilch. If the government does not take serious steps soon to ensure the security of railway tracks, trains and railway stations, people would be losing their dear ones every now and then. In this regard, the government should ensure security and deal with security lapses. Those found negligent in their duties must be dealt with strictly. Nabia Noman Karachi
