Sir: Last year when Dr Qadri staged a dharna (sit-in) at Islamabad, he was banking on the expected support from the judiciary. But to his disappointment he was insulted and disowned by the judiciary to an extent that he narrowly escaped contempt of court charges. This time Qadri is leaning on the army. When he landed at Lahore airport, he was adamant to negotiate only with the high army officials. He has also announced to eulogize the army’s role in the defence of Pakistan every Friday. It has now become important that Dr Qadri also establishes his relationship with the civil political government (which happens to be democratically elected) because if the second institution he is depending on disowns him as well, his political career will be seriously damaged.
