Sir: Two years have passed since the commencement of a targeted operation in Karachi but satisfactory results have not come about till now. According to a report by the Sindh police, 33,000 target killers, hooligans and other professional offenders are roaming the city right now. With the passage of time these criminals are consolidating their positions and wealth. Sometimes they abduct innocent people and free them after taking huge ransoms. The government and judiciary are reticent in this matter. Although the government gave a free hand to the Sindh Rangers to take action against all target killers, the situation has become worse and they are unable to bring them under control. The main cause of their failure is that some influential politicians patronise the culprits secretly. The best solution to prevent target killing is that the police and other law enforcement agencies should be depoliticised and then carry on the operation. It is vital for the Rangers to catch all these target killers to save Karachi from further violence and terrorism. SHAHNAWAZ Via Email
