GUJRANWALA: Police have reportedly arrested 22 proclaimed offenders (POs) during a general hold up and recovered illicit arms from their possession. According to a police press release, on the directions of CPO Muhammad Ashfaq Khan, police parties set up check posts at various points in the city and the surrounding areas and arrested 22 proclaimed offenders. Additionally, 2 rifles, 7 pistols, 37 litres of alcohol, and 900 grams of’chars’ were also recovered from the accused persons. CPO Ashfaq Khan directed the police officers to carry on a general hold up in the district in the future also. Separately, Deputy Commissioner Amir Jaan said that no one would be allowed to exploit people in the name of profit. He believed an effective mechanism should be adopted to ensure the availability of edible items at controlled rates to curb the tendency for profiteering during the Holy month of Ramadan. While addressing a price control meeting held in his office, he directed the assistant commissioners and special magistrates to take solid steps for the provision of essential items to the general public on controlled rates. He said that the administrative officers should conduct raids against profiteers to provide relief to the masses while stern action should be taken against shopkeepers who hoard and profiteer. The DC also directed the officers to complete the arrangements for setting up 17 Ramzan Bazaars in the district during the holy month.
