Sir: In Turbat, the second largest city in Balochistan in terms of population, no orphanage has been set up for those children whose parents have passed away. Due to the lack of an orphanage, many orphans are passing their miserable lives under the open sky and the dirty streets of the city. The poor children who have no one to care for them have been the victims of negligence by every government. No welfare organisation or government has built an orphanage to date. Nor have any other steps been observed to work for the welfare, education and shelter of orphans. The children who grow up under such conditions are at greater risk of becoming involved in criminal activities. It is the moral responsibility of the government to save these children who are the future of the country. Therefore it is urgently needed that the government introduce orphanages throughout the city and work for their welfare. WAHEED HAIDER, Kech
