Abbu Special: another milestone added to children’s literature

Author: NNI

KARACHI: Monthly Sathee, one of the premier Urdu children magazines, has recently introduced ‘Abbu Special’, a literary tribute honouring all father figures–who have yet to recieve their due share of attention in the modern literature. The ‘Abbu Special was initiated in May 2016, and should be rightly acknowledged as the first endeavour, across the entire history of not only Urdu literature, but scholarly works in all languages, which celebrates the relationship between a child and his father. “In the modern literature, the father is being portrayed as a cruel and dictatorial human figure, rendering a negative impression among children and despite quite a huge significance and central status, the role of the father has been intentionally neglected by today’s writers and poets, the lot of gender biased scholars,” said Azam Tariq Kohistani, editor, Monthly Sathee. He further added, “This is our prime responsibility to inculcate a positive attitude in children and it is more than a milestone for the Urdu literature to lead from the front, whenever it comes to offering a healthy reading material to the young readers.” Monthly Sathee’s recent “Abbu Special’ for May 2016 contains a literary treasure penned down by many well-known writers and poets, including Athar Ali Hashmi, Ahmed Hatib Siddqui, Nazeer Anbalwi, Shah Nawaz Farooqi, Mir Shahid Hussian, Zia Ullah Mohsin, Fozia Khaleel, Uzma Abu Nasr Siddiqui, Beena Siddiqui, Rahima Khan, Saleem Farooqi, Tanweer Phool, Ahmed Adnan Tariq, among many others. It also features an extensive collection of short stories and informative articles for children, the likes of ‘Fatima Kay Abbu,’ ‘Abbu Ki Dant,’ ‘Abbu Ne Jab Tohfa Dekha,’ ‘Ajeeb Abbu,’ ‘Abbu Aese Hote Hen,’ ‘Janwaro Ke Abbu’, ‘Abbu Ki Baaten’, ‘Abbu Hamare Ehad Ke’, ‘Abbu Saat Samandar Paar,’ and ‘Abbu Ki Mane Ge Bat’.
