ISLAMABAD: PPP Secretary General and former governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khosa, has said that PPP will file a petition in the Election Commission (EC) seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif.

In an exclusive chat with the Daily Times he said PPP would strengthen democracy but it did not mean that PPP would stand side by side with Nawaz Sharif.

He held that Nawaz Sharif tried hard to have a meeting with former president Asif Zardari but this meeting could not take place. Asif Zardari had refused to meet him. He went on to say that with the consent of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP will file a petition in EC for disqualification of PM Nawaz Sharif because he has no more remained honest and truthful. He added that the PM did not fulfil Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution. It is now a job of the EC that only those are given people’s representation who meet the requirements of Articles 62 and 63. PPP will provide all evidence in the EC on this count. Nawaz Sharif and his family have indulged in corrupt practices, therefore they should be held accountable. He stated that the legal fraternity had made it clear if the parliament does not give ToRs within 15 days then all options were open to them. A movement can also be launched in this respect. It is a matter of survival for Pakistan as corruption is the root cause of all evils. He remarked that Rs 700 million were being recovered from homes and millions of rupees were being recovered from a bakery. He asked as to where the country was heading. He underlined that Pir Pagara had said when any difficult time overtakes Nawaz Sharif then he falls on his feet and when he comes out of hard times then he lays his hands on the other man’s neck.

“Nawaz Sharif and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq have now remembered to visit the home of Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani while on the other hand the son of Suleman Taseer has also been released but no one visited his home”. He observed if someone was involved in corruption then he had no right to sit in the houses of parliament. Some people link the survival of Pakistan to this fact. If there is a corruption free society then democracy would gain strength. We would solidify democracy but not join hands with Nawaz Sharif, he remarked.
