ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to include names of new CNIC holders entitled to be enrolled as voters in the electoral rolls.

As per details, the ECP has approved a plan for annual revision of the electoral rolls for the year 2016 to include the names of new CNIC holders in the electoral rolls.

The ECP will also exclude voters from the rolls who have become disqualified due to death, surrender or cancelled CNICs, an ECP spokesman said on Wednesday.

Under the plan, door-to-door verification shall be carried out from August 1 to August 15, which shall be followed by 21 days of display process starting from August 21, he said. For the said purpose, designated officials shall visit the permanent addresses of the new CNIC holders, the spokesman added.

Simultaneously, door-to-door verification of all the deceased voters shall be carried out for deletion of said voters. After verification, the said lists will displayed at designated display centres, offices of district election commissioners, registration officers and assistant registration officers for public inspection, he explained.

List of display centres with contact details will be shared with media, besides publishing it on the ECP’s official website, he maintained.

A mass media campaign has been planned for the event where general public will be requested to check their vote status by sending a SMS containing their CNIC number to 8300 through their mobile phones.

If desired, applications for enrolment/transfer, correction and deletion of votes could be submitted on prescribed forms at designated display centres, offices of district election commissioners, registration officers and assistant registration officers.

He said that voter count is expected to increase from 93 million to 97-98 million after the said revision process.

The ECP has issued necessary instructions to all provincial election commissioners, regional election commissioners, district election commissioners, NADRA and all stakeholders concerned to complete pre-requisites of the revision process at the earliest, the spokesman added.
