51 students test positive for Covid-19 in Punjab

As many as 51 students, three teachers and a staffer tested positive for the novel coronavirus in various schools in Punjab on Monday, a private TV channel reported.

Talking to journalists, Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Secretary Captain (r) Usman confirmed that 51 students and three teachers were diagnosed with Covid-19, adding that nine class rooms of various educational institutions have been sealed for violation of SOPs. He said various teams of the health department had taken samples of 28,887 students. Of them, results of 6,168 students came out negative while 41 students were diagnosed with the virus.

Earlier in the day, as many as 237 cases of coronavirus were reported in educational institutions of Balochistan. As per details shared by the education department, so far four universities of the province have been closed till September 26 after surge in coronavirus cases. However, the staff of the universities had been asked to ensure their presence.

The total active Covid-19 cases in Pakistan on Monday were recorded at 7,015 as 633 more people tested positive for the deadly virus during the last 24 hours. Four coronavirus patients, who were under treatment in hospital died, according to the latest update issued by the National command and Operation Centre (NCOC). No Covid-19 affected person was on ventilator in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Balochistan, while 106 ventilators elsewhere in Pakistan, out of 1,912 allocated for COVID-19 patients, were occupied.

Some 33,393 tests were conducted across the country on Sunday, including 13,198 in Sindh, 10,589 in Punjab, 3,138 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 4,243 in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 1,195 in Balochistan, 397 in GB, and 633 in AJK. Around 292,869 people have recovered from the disease so far across Pakistan.
