Ebad seeks PC-1 for installation of CCTV cameras in parks

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has directed Karachi administrator to prepare PC-1 for installation of close circuit TV cameras at all major parks of the city so as to create a sense of safety and security amongst visiting families, and curb anti-societal elements.

Presiding over a meeting to review the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of various parks and roadside plantation, at the Governor’s House, on Thursday, the governor directed the authorities concerned to establish “Muhallah Management Committees” (MMCs) for monitoring of facilities being provided at the parks.

Principal Secretary to Governor Muhammad Hussain Syed, Local Government Secretary Baqaullah Unnar, Karachi Administrator Laeeq Ahmed, KMC Parks Director General Abdullah Mushtaq and other officials also attended the meeting.

“This will develop a sense of ownership amongst them and they would do their utmost to monitor, protect and preserve their parks,” the governor said. He also directed Parks DG to consult renowned botanists to ensure plantation of saplings and trees keeping in view the climate of Karachi so as to not only ensure beautification of the city and also minimising the menace of pollution.

“NGOs working for the betterment of environment should also be taken on board in this regard to spread awareness about tree plantation and its benefits on the overall environmental scenario of the city,” he added.

The governor also directed the authorities concerned to examine possibility of establishment of libraries or readings rooms at major parks of the city. He also directed KMC administrator to prepare a summary for purchasing of 15 to 20 bowsers.

Meanwhile, Parks DG Abdullah Mushtaq informed the governor that the KMC was managing 35 parks and 31 roads. Besides carrying out beautification work of these parks and roads, he said, emphasis was also being laid on planting new saplings, flowers and trees to make them more attractive and beautiful.

He also briefed the governor about development work at Agha Khan Park Clifton, Hosh Muhammad Sheedi Shaheed Park Clifton, Moin Akhter Park, New Clifton Garden, Aunty Park, Benazir Park, Umer Sharif Park, Bagh-e-Ibne Qasim, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Aziz Bhatti Park, Hill Park, Jheel Park and Stadium Park and beautification work on Shahra-e-Qaideen, Shahra-e-Faisal, 4-K Chowrangi Road and other roads.
