Spectacular photograph of blood red moon rising over Manhattan

Jennifer Khordi has been waiting for this shot for two years – two years in which she was tracking the moon and waiting for it to appear in all its glory over lower Manhattan.

The New Jersey-based photographer finally seized the moment she had been longing for – and the result is breathtaking. Using The Photographer’s Ephemeris, Khordi snapped a shot of a blood red moon just as it appeared over the Freedom Tower.

“I calculated the trajectory of the moon from that vantage point,” she told the Daily Mail. “I’ve been shooting the moon for two years now and I knew the exact minute the moon would be behind the building. I was very lucky to have a clear night, clear air, little haze and no clouds.”

Khordi says that she shot the image from a high vantage point in a state park that lies 25 miles away from New York City. “It was just absolutely amazing to see this,” she said.

Initially, as the moon rose over the horizon, it was slightly to the left of 1 World Trade Centre. Four minutes later, it was directly behind the skyscraper.

Khordi says that people have reacted to the images with ‘disbelief.’

The popular news site Drudge Report posted a link to the image, generating greater exposure and making Khordi an Internet celebrity.

For the naysayers who offer up conspiracy theories about doctored images, Khordi says that they are welcome to look at the back of the camera display.
