ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Monday adopted a resolution condemning anti-Pakistan remarks of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) London leader Altaf Hussain and urged the government to take strict action against him.

The House unanimously adopted the resolution moved by Senator Saeedul Hassan Mandokhel also clubbing with it the adjournment motions of Senators Azam Swati and Kamil Ali Agha. “This House strongly condemns the remarks made by Altaf Hussain regarding Pakistan, chanting slogans against Pakistan and instigating his party workers to attack media houses in Karachi on August 22,” said the resolution adopted by the House.

“This House calls upon the government to take strict action against him and others for violating the law of the land, attacking media houses and creating law and order situation in the country,” the resolution added. Earlier the Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani gave ruling on the issue granting permission to the member to move this resolution as an extra ordinary matter.

“Previously, there has been tradition to hold such resolutions out of order that pertained to personal remarks of the political leaders,” he observed and mentioned to observations of Senate Chairman Ghulam Ishaq Khan and his own observations. He said no matter could be brought to the House through a resolution wherein any law of the land is not infringed in the personal statements of political leaders.

“But, here the matter pertains to integrity and solidarity of the state as Altaf Hussain spoke against the state and incited people against the state. Therefore, I exceptionally allow this resolution to be moved to the House,” Rabbani remarked. The chairman also held the adjournment motions by Senators Azam Khan Swati and Kamil Ali Agha in order and clubbed with the resolution.
