Indian fishermen released from Karachi jail reach Lahore

The 20 Indian fishermen who were released from the Malir District Jail as goodwill gesture have arrived in Lahore on Monday.

The Indian fishermen will be handed over to Indian officials in a ceremony at Wagah border after completing the legal formalities shortly. Edhi Foundation distributed gifts among the fishermen upon arrival at the Lahore railway station.

It is pertinent to mention here that Edhi Foundation beared their expenses for travelling and food. The Maritime Security Agency had arrested the fishermen over violation of Pakistani territorial waters last year.

Earlier on January 5, Twenty Indian fishermen imprisoned in Malir District Jail had been released and will be sent Lahore for onward hand over to Indian authorities on Monday.

The Indian fishermen had been released at 3:00 PM from Malir District Jail in Landhi and to be handed over to the Edhi Foundation by the jail police, sources had said. The fishermen will travel from Cantt Station of Karachi to Lahore and taken to the Wagah border crossing.

The fishermen will be handed over to Indian officials in a ceremony on January 06 (Monday) at Wagah border. According to Indian media reports, the fishermen released are residents of Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
