Pakistan Army win 33rd National Games trophy

Pakistan Army clinched the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy for the 24th time when they secured 7909 points with 150 gold, 134 silver and 96 bronze medals while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were awarded fair-play trophy of the 33rd National Games which concluded after a colorful closing ceremony in Peshawaron Saturday. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt Gen (r) Syed Arif Hassan, POA Secretary General Khalid Mehmood, President KP Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah, KP Secretary Sports Kamran Rehman, Director General Sports AsfandyarKhattak, Managing Director Tourism Corporation Junaid Khan, players and large number of spectators were also present on the occasion. Strict security measures in and around the Peshawar Sports Complex by the security forces ensured security to the 10,000 players taking part in the 33rd edition of the National Games.

Pakistan WAPDA secured second position with 7093, 148 gold, 99 silver and 73 bronze medals. Pakistan Railways got third position with 1815 points, 12 gold, 20 silver and 73 bronze medals. Pakistan Navy claimed fourth position with 1770 points, 21 gold, 24 silver and 22 bronze medals. Pakistan Air Force with 1426 points, 11 gold, 16 silver and 31 bronze medals were fifth. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seventh with 1287 points, by grabbing two gold, five silver and 34 bronze medals. Higher Education Commission (HEC)with 11 gold, 11 silver and 38 bronze medalsclinched 8th position. The total cost of the National Games was around Rs 220 million.
