Four security personnel killed in Quetta ambush

QUETTA: As many as four FC and police personnel were killed and a civilian was injured in an ambush on Fatima Jinnah Road on Saturday. Police sources said unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle sprayed a volley of bullets on the personnel deployed there. As a result, five, including three FC personnel, a police constable and a civilian were injured.

The assailants managed to escape from the scene. The rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Two of FC personnel and the police constable succumbed to their injuries on their way to the hospital. Later, another injured FC personnel also succumbed to his wounds at Civil Hospital. The injured civilian is being treated at the hospital. The dead were identified as Police Constable Shah Wali and FC personnel Younas, Ahmed Nawaz and Muhammad Ali. The injured man was recognised as Gul Ahmed. The law enforcers have cordoned off the entire area and a search operation had also been launched. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of personnel of FC and police in a firing incident in Quetta.

He prayed to God to bless the departed souls with eternal peace, said a press release. Nawaz said the law enforcers laid down their lives in the line of duty and a great national cause. He paid rich tributes to the martyrs and said their matchless sacrifices would always be remembered with great respect. Reiterating his government’s strongest resolve to take the war on terror to its logical conclusion, he said such cowardly acts of terrorism could not deter the resolve of the nation. Separately, the FC arrested two suspected militants linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the industrial town of Hub in Lasbela District. An FC spokesman, in a press statement here, said the FC teams conducted a raid in Hub and nabbed the suspects.
