GWADAR: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah on Tuesday said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be a game changer and would generate economic dividends for the entire region, adding that a strong navy was crucial for the security of the economic corridor.
Zakaullah was addressing an International Maritime Conference on CPEC to commission the Task Force-88 (TF-88). Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was to attend the conference but his flight from Lahore was delayed due to dense fog.
Elaborating on TF-88, the naval chief said that the task force had been established after the port had become functional and would protect the port from formal and informal threats. “Speedboats, planes for aerial supervision and drones are a part of this special force,” he added.
Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Bajwa, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Zubair Hayat and Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri attended the conference.
