The workshop was jointly organized by BZU Department of Engineering; Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency (PEECA); Energy Department of Government of Punjab and Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO).
BZU Electrical Engineering Department Head Dr Abdul Sattar Malik noted that the objective of conducting this one-day workshop was to suggest various means for energy conservation and efficient usage.
He added the Punjab Energy Department and BZU were conducting a joint venture to not only raise awareness about energy efficiency among the masses but also help them reduce their electricity bills.
Pakistan was blessed with an abundance of natural resources like coal that could provide the cheapest energy if appropriate means opted for its utilisation, he maintained.

PEECA Program Manager Abdur Rehman also spoke on the occasion and believed that several projects launched by Punjab Government were adding thousands of megawatts to the national grid. The government was also said to be taking suggestions from academicians to cope with the energy crises.
He said that Punjab government was conducting workshops with the collaboration of universities to create awareness among the masses about effective and efficient utilisation of energy.
BZU Resident Officer Professor Rehan Shiekh asserted that the joint venture of government and universities would enable the government to produce maximum renewable energy.
He further said all energy crises were man-made, which could be ended by opting efficient means.
The situation had improved to a great extent as earlier there was load shedding of 12 and 16 hours in urban and rural areas respectively, he maintained.
Academicians also suggested ways and means to conserve energy.
Engineer Kamran Shabbir told the participants about “Earth Tube Systems for Energy Efficient Buildings,” while Dr Muhammad Sultan presented his ideas on “Energy-Efficient Air Conditioning and Cooling System and their Applications.”Engineer Mian Qaisar Abbas talked about “Energy Conservation and Auditing Standards” and Dr Kamran Liaqat Bhatti shared his views on “Energy Conservation Options and Practical Approach in Educational Buildings.”
The workshop was marked by the presence of MEPCO Multan Chief Engineer Mohammad Umar Lodhi; Punjab Government Energy Additional Chief Secretary Dr Syed Pervaiz Abbas; BZUVice Chancellor Professor Dr Tariq Mahmood Ansari and engineers, students and researchers.
At the end of the workshop, a question-answer session was conducted while shields were also distributed among the participants and organisers of the workshop.
