Bilawal attacks ‘fascist trolls who run this country’

A resolution demanding that the government register a treason case against Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was submitted by an MPA of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Yesterday.

Bilalwal responded with a strong statement today that said whether those who refuse to follow scripted narratives would be declared traitors.

In a tweet on Friday, Bilawal urged Pakistanis to reject the accusations being hurled at him, labelling the government ‘fascist trolls’.

The PPP chairman’s response came a day after a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MPA demanded that the government register a treason case against him for allegedly making an ‘anti-Pakistan statement’.

Bilawal asked: ‘Is life now a fascist screenplay where if you don’t follow a script you are declared traitor?’

The diatribe is the latest in a series of strong criticisms leveled at the PTI by the opposition leader.

Speaking at a press conference last week, the PPP Chairman voiced his concerns about the government’s latest efforts to combat extremism and crack down on banned organisations.

He urged the government to take a tougher stance and demanded the removal three sitting ministers who he alleged had ‘long-held ties’ with the banned organisations JuD and LeT.

Bilawal called for the formation of a cross-party National Security Committee to oversee the implementation of the National Action Plan, alleging that the PTI ‘are not taking action against the banned organisations because they had been their allied in the last general elections.

PTI MPA Mussarat Jamshed Cheema responded with allegations of treason, arguing that Bilawal’s statement reflected the ‘Indian narrative’.

The assembly member went on to compare Bilawal’s words to ‘an Indian rocket launcher’.

In his response to the extraordinary accusations of treason leveled against him, Bilawal decried the logic of calling someone a traitor for questioning a ‘scripted narrative’.

He further defended himself by contrasting ‘changing’ government narratives with his own ideology.

On Wednesday, Bilawal took to twitter to congratulate Prime Minister Imran Khan on World Puppetry Day.
