Non-food items distributed among vulnerable TDPs, widows

GHALANAI: Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) Mohmand Agency with support of PRC National Headquarters Islamabad and PRC FATA distributed Non-food items among 100 vulnerable TDPs and 40 widow’s kits including sewing machines among widows of war affected families in border areas of Mohmand Agency here on Thursday.

In this regard, a function was arranged at the headquarters of Biazai Sub-Division Bahi Daag here on Wednesday, in which widows, orphan children and war effected peoples participated.

On the distribution point Assistant Political Agent Baizai Pir Abdullah Shah ‘ Wing Commander 201wing Lt. Col Imtiaz Ali, Member Managing Board PRC Fata Haji Tahir Akbar Mohmand, Assistant Director Youth & Volunteers PRC Fata RiazDawar, Agency Secretary PRC Mohmand Agency Fauzee Khan Mohmand, PRC volunteers and others government officials were also present.

Agency Secretary PRC Mohmand Agency Fauzee Khan Mohmand informed that Pakistan Red Crescent want to help all the war affected community in tribal areas and for that purpose PRC FATA has started its activities from Mohmand agency and distribute 140 NFIs kits in the region and such activities would be carried out in others tribal regions also.

He said that PRC had provided such facilities to thousands of effected tribesmen of the agency and sought assistance of the donors and philanthropists to extend the programme.

“Sewing is the most earning way for the widows not only in Pakistan but also in the world” said Khan.

He said that they have distributed 40 sewing machines among the widows so that to assists widows to raise their income in this way.

He added that widow’s packages were included sewing machine 40, cloth colar for qameez 40, wooden frame for embroidery 80 , fan pedestal 40, comb/nail cutter 80, wools for knitting 800, painting brush 120, needle for sewing machine 480, oil for sewing machine 40, koreshia, for knitting/sewing 40 while 100 families included axe pick 100, dust bin 100, carpet 100, heater kerosene 100, stove, kerosene burner 100, bedsheet 200, sleeping bags for indoor use 100, body soap 2000 bucket plastic 300, rope nylon 400 and blankets quits 400.

Assistant Political Agent Abdullah Shah hailed the PRC activities and its response throughout tribal areas and assured their full cooperation from the administration. Addressing on the occasion they said that sewing is the most earning way for the vulnerable widows in tribal areas.

He said that women in border areas of Mohmand have few opportunities for earning an income; there are a large number of women who are deserted or widowed due to conflict in the area.

“This activity assists women to generate income through small enterprise, so that they can increase their income and enhance their quality of life”, said Shah.

Abdullah Shah said that it will promotes livelihoods and entrepreneurial initiatives in parts of the tribal region; sewing machines with kits, grocery items, wooden frame for embroidery, wool for knitting were distributed among 40 widows selected beneficiaries, this in turn increases their financial health to achieve their aspiration.

APA said that Distribution of NFIs Kits among Vulnerable Women of the tribal region helped in promoting healthy lifestyle among community women.

Lt. Col Imtiaz Ali said that people living in remote areas did not receive the same benefits from interventions as those living in more accessible areas while Pakistan Red Crescent is the first organization who carried out its activities.

At the end they distributed NFIs and sewing machines among the 40 widows and 100 most vulnerable peoples of the area.
