Explosion rips through military camp in Mali

BAMAKO: A bomb explosion in a military camp in Mali’s northern city of Gao killed 25 people and injured scores. According to a statement by Mali’s military, the incident occurred when a vehicle packed with explosives was detonated near a military camp.

The camp where the explosion occurred was housing government soldiers along with members of various rival armed groups, who were conducting mixed patrols in light of a UN-brokered peace accord aimed at putting an end to violence in Mali’s restive north.

Twenty-five people were killed and others were injured when a vehicle packed with explosives detonated on Wednesday at a military camp in Mali´s northern city of Gao, according to a provisional death toll announced by the army.

The camp was housing government soldiers as well as members of various rival armed groups, who together conduct mixed
patrols in line with a UN-brokered peace accord aimed at quelling violence in Mali´s restive desert north.
