Greenback edges lower in value versus domestic unit

The greenback closed depressed in value against the rupee in the interbank and appreciated in open market dealings, treasurers and currency dealers said. Dollar started day’s trading at Rs 139 for buying, with 40 paisa variation in value closed at Rs 138.60 for buying and Rs 138.80 for selling in interbank. The euro stood firm in value against rupee as it started day’s trading at Rs 156.87 for buying, closed at Rs 157.87 for buying and at Rs 158.07 for selling after Re 1 upward change. The pound sterling remained firm against domestic unit as it initiated the day’s trading at Rs 173.84 for buying and closed at Rs 174.84 for buying and Rs 175.04 for selling after gaining Re 1.

Open market: The dollar remained firm against the rupee, dealers said. It started the day’s trading at Rs 139 for buying and closed at Rs 139.20 for buying after 20 paisas increase in value and stood at Rs 139.40 for selling. The euro remained plus versus the rupee as it started the day’s trading at Rs 156.50 for buying, with 50 paisas upward change in value it closed at Rs 157 for buying and at Rs 157.20 for selling. The pound sterling remained firm against rupee as it started the day’s trading at Rs 173 for buying, closed in upper bracket with Re 1 change for buying and closed at Rs 174 for selling. staff report
