PFA seals five illegal dairy production units

To control the wicked practice of fat rendering units, comprehensive guidelines and standard operating procedures are under consideration of Punjab Food Authority (PFA), said

Director General Captain (r) Muhammad Usman after chairing a meeting at his office in this regard on Tuesday.

DG Muhammad Usman said that it was compulsory for fat rendering units to get licences from PFA. He said that they would maintain the complete record of traceability that should include receiving of all material from where it was bought.

The DG said that PFA would take strict action and cancel the licence of violators in case of non-compliance with the instructions of the food regulatory body. “The PFA is making a comprehensive and integrated policy on it in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department.”

On the other hand, PFA enforcement teams unearthed five illicit dairy production units and sealed all of them.

The raids were conducted in the suburbs of Sahiwal, Arif Wala and Pakpattan. As many as 6,000 litres of contaminated milk was confiscated by the food teams during an action against them on a tip-off.

Usman and said that milk was being produced by adding harmful chemicals, powder, urea, and polluted water. He said that contaminated milk was to be supplied to big cities.
