City and traffic police finalise security arrangements for by-election day

City and traffic police on Saturday, finalised foolproof security arrangements on the coming by-election of NA 124, 131 and PP 164 and 165 seat for today (Sunday) in the provincial metropolis.

More than 10,000 police officials would provide security on 193 sensitive polling stations out of 881 at two National Assembly and two PP constituencies.

A number of Pakistan Army and Rangers would perform security duties inside and outside every polling station at NA 124, 131 and PP 164 and 165. Media coverage will not allow inside polling stations as well no persons will use mobile phone inside polling stations, if any persons will find such activities than strict action will be taken against them.

The teams of Elite Force, Dolphin Force and PRU under the supervision of 12 superintendents of police will be on duty within the constituencies. Police would also provide tight security at 881 polling stations.

Operations Deputy Inspector General Shahzad Akbar said that strict action would be taken against those on receiving any complaint in this regard as the police department has decided to make the election transparent.

The code of conduct of Election Commission of Pakistan will be implemented in true letter and spirit. No candidate will be allowed to move with their armed private guards during Election Day. He said that zero tolerance policy will be implemented in case of displaying, carrying of arms and aerial firing.

This by-election is a big challenge for both Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz parties. Strict disciplinary action will be taken in case of receiving any complaint against such officer/official of their involvement at any stage.

During the by-elections, a four-layer security will be provided and reserves, armed with anti riot equipments will remain as stand by arrangements to deal with any kind of law and order situation. APC will also be available in the vicinity to deal with any emergency and Rescue 1122 will also remained on stand-by positions.

The city traffic police also evolved a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic on various busy roads and to facilitate the citizens today.

Chief Traffic Officer Liaquat Ali Malik said that they had finalised the traffic plan to ensure a proper flow of traffic outside the polling stations, election commission office, returning officer’s office and other busy roads to facilitate the citizens and to redress their grievance.
