The milk that you drink has washing powder added in it for thickness: PFA DG

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday launched a city-wide drive against adulterated and substandard milk, in which at least 6,600 litres of tainted milk was disposed off.

Dairy Safety Teams of PFA under the supervision of veterinary specialists have checked as many as 35,000 litres of milk by placing screening pickets on the entry points of the city. PFA Director General Captain (r) Muhammad Usman paid visits to various pickets and monitored the activities of field teams.

On the occasion, PFA DG Captain (r) Muhammad Usman said that officials have seized as many as 6,600 litres of adulterated milk and foiled an attempt to supply it in the market on 32 vehicles from surrounding areas of the city. He said that PFA disposed off the confiscated milk over proven contamination of powder, formalin, chemicals, washing powder and polluted water in it. He said that adulterated items were added for the purpose of thickness and to increase the quantity of milk. He further said that teams have disposed off all adulterated milk over sample test’s results which were positive are which were taken on the spot. The PFA director general said that chemical and powder contaminated milk is unfit for human consumption and become causes of health diseases. He further said that PFA has accelerated the operation against them to bring down wicked practice of milk adulteration in Punjab.

On the other hand, PFA has unearthed three illegal slaughterhouses and discarded 95 maunds of poor quality meat of sick animals while carrying out raids in the area of Bakar Mandi and Pak Town. Upon the information of PFA vigilance cell, a special operation was launched against them.

PFA has also registered a case against Javed Goga Meat Service in the respective area’s police station.
