Meesha Shafi’s explosive allegation of sexual harassment against Pakistan’s most popular singer and actor Ali Zafar has propelled the #MeToo movement in Pakistan with more women coming forward to express and share their own stories of abuse and harassment.
It didn’t take long for this controversy to go global as the Hollywood actress and the pioneer of the #MeToo campaign, Rose McGowan, who first accused the Hollywood tycoon Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, also offered her support to Meesha. She called Meesha Shafi a heroine following her allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar.
The Hollywood actress took to twitter to share the editorial note of Daily Times Newspaper, along with the words: “A heroine for our times. I stand with Meesha Shafi.”
Meesha showed her gratitude to Rose McGowan by posting a picture of McGowan’s tweet on Instagram.
With so many women coming forward with their own incidents of harassment, Pakistan is directed towards the #MeToo movement. But the real question remains: Is Pakistan ready for it?
